Scaffolding: section sizes, characteristics, description

Scaffolding is a structure that has been known to mankind since ancient times. This suggests that the need for them arose as soon as a person mastered the basics of building buildings. It is all the more interesting that there is no alternative to scaffolding to this day.

Appointment and completion of scaffolding

Scaffolds are collapsible structures that are installed along the objects under construction for easy access to them and placement of equipment and tools for builders. With the help of scaffolding, not only the construction of the building is carried out, but also its insulation, painting, finishing, repair, installation of various equipment, and so on.

Among the most common structures of this kind, frame, wedge-clamp and crossbar scaffolding can be distinguished. Absolutely all equipment has the following equipment, depending on operational needs:

  • Frames.

Perform the function of scaffolding framework. They consist of a certain number of beams, which are attached to each other with the help of special fittings, forming a structure of the desired size. There are frames equipped with ladders to move workers from one floor to another and without them.

  • Diagonals.

Special fasteners that improve the stability of scaffolding. The diagonals are installed between the frames on special clamps.

  • Horizons.

The frames are also interconnected (you need 2 per section).

  • Rigel.

Needed to install decking. It is a pipe with hooks at both ends, which are attached horizontally.

  • Deck

Most often, wooden flat shields that are placed on crossbars and on which workers move and place their tools and equipment.

  • Brackets.

Anchors for fastening the scaffolding to the building and fixing it securely.

  • Adjustable and non-adjustable feet

Jacks and stands that are needed for balancing, leveling scaffolding. Installed under the structure itself. They are mounted on flat substrates so that the support does not sink into soft ground.

This type of construction is also supplemented with various accessories for scaffolding, such as protective nets, sleeves for collecting garbage, etc.

Now let's take a closer look at each type of scaffolding.

Frame scaffolding: their properties and dimensions

Frame scaffolding is the most popular type of this kind of structure. They are lightweight and easy to assemble and dismantle. Their frame consists of pipes that are connected using special fasteners. The pin pipes themselves are placed one inside the other, thanks to the technology of their production. This provides even greater connection reliability.

All frame scaffolding are divided into three types:

  • LRSP-40;
  • LRSP-60;
  • LRSP-100.

Having approximately the same diameter (42 mm, 48 mm and 48 mm, respectively), the same thickness of the pin pipes and the ability to create equivalent sections, the number at the end of the marking indicates the height in meters to which it is permissible to build up the structure.

Frame scaffolding is used for both external and internal work of various types. They can be single, double, triple, etc. and connect with fasteners.

Dimensions and characteristics of wedge-clamp scaffolding

Wedge-clamp scaffolding is a technical building structure that is designed to work at a height of no more than 40 meters. The pipe diameter is 42 mm with a wall thickness of 2-2.5 mm. Their purpose is buildings with a shape other than the standard rectangular one: columns, spherical walls, domes, sheer walls, etc. With the help of wedge-shaped locks, the structure of the desired shape is built up.

Wedge-clamp scaffolding differs from frame scaffolding in that it is advisable to use them for laying bricks, they can move flooring and use them to work in narrow openings, on flights of stairs and other non-standard areas.

This type of scaffolding is quite light, so it is easy to assemble, disassemble and transport. Due to this, many them is not required: you can always quickly disassemble the wedge-shaped locks and move the existing structure to the right place.

Remember that, according to safety regulations, the higher the section is, the less load it should experience, and at the same time no more than 4 sections can be loaded.

Modular scaffolding, general characteristics

Modular or transom scaffolding are the most powerful, as their design is aimed at any type of construction, including the erection of high brick and block walls. The carrying capacity of such scaffolding per square meter is three to four times higher than the frame and wedge-clamp counterparts. Pipes with a diameter of 6 centimeters and a wall thickness of 3 millimeters are used, and the structure itself can reach 60 meters in height. At the same time, the size of the section can be very different and is determined by the technical needs of the construction site.

Transom scaffolding is quite voluminous and expensive, so it is rational to afford their purchase only for construction companies. In other cases, renting these structures is usually considered.

Tips for saving on scaffolding

The scaffolding itself is a rather expensive pleasure. For home construction, their purchase is most often unjustified, since there is no need for their further operation. Therefore, rental of scaffolding or making them from wood is used.

Wood scaffolding is very common, as it can be assembled from boards and improvised materials, and the wood can subsequently be disposed of in any way. Typically, for frames of such structures, edged boards 5 centimeters thick are used, and they are fastened together with horizontal and diagonal fasteners on nails. The flooring is selected based on the needs of the builders.

It is worth noting that the simplest wooden scaffolding 1.5-2.5 meters high are more typically used indoors. For outdoor work, where large dimensions are needed, you should take care to strengthen them and build them exactly according to the technology.

The disadvantage of wooden scaffolding is their lack of mobility. Due to the precariousness of the structure, it is not easy to enlarge, expand, move it, and for this it will be necessary to completely dismantle the scaffolding, which takes a lot of time. In addition, in conditions of high humidity, such structures are extremely short-lived, so this point should be taken into account when planning the construction time.

Builders from Asia were lucky in this regard. Even in industrial construction, they use bamboo - a durable, strong material that has no operational shortcomings and is very cheap.

When choosing scaffolding, be guided by a complete construction plan and its timing. The main thing to remember is that saving on this design can later cost you much more. Therefore, when choosing scaffolding for your construction site, enlist the support of professional workers and specialists.
